With the absorption of the Greek states into the Roman Republic in 146BC the highly advanced Greek military technology started to find its way into the Roman military - chief amongst these was the Ballista, a stone-throwing siege engine.

After refining the Greek design the Balliasta became a highly accurate weapon (there are many accounts of single soldiers being picked off by ballista operators). These engines of destruction had psychological affects on the enemy was well as physical and become a valauble part of the Imperial Roman Legions.
